Korea’s Ramen Exports Hit Record High
South Korea posted its highest semi-annual ramen exports figure amid a surge in global demand for its instant noodle products.
As of June, Korean ramen exports totaled $446.2 million, which was a 16.4 percent jump from the previous $383.2 million.
Nongshim, the nation’s No. 1 ramen seller, saw more than half of its operating profit come from its US subsidiary.
South Korea is set to surpass $1 billion in ramen exports in 2024 after experiencing a record-breaking shipment month in February.
The customs service reported a 23,000-ton ramen export in February, marking a 20% increase from the year prior.
Ramen exports hit a record $92.97 million in February 2024, up 31.5% from February 2023.
Cabbage and radish kimchi were found to effectively lower obesity in both men and women in a clinical study conducted in South Korea.
A study involving over 115,000 adults revealed that those who consumed one to three servings of kimchi daily had a lower risk of obesity than those who ate less than a serving per day.
The high-fiber content in kimchi contributes to increased satiety, while its pre-and-probiotic properties support gut health.
A massive bluefin tuna was sold for nearly $800,000 in an auction, making it the most expensive seafood at Tokyo’s largest fish market.
The ginormous bluefin tuna weighed almost 525 pounds and was purchased by a seafood wholesaler and sushi chain.
The next pitstop for the fish will be Onodera, a Michelin-starred sushi restaurant in the Tokyo’s Ginza district.
