Man Reunites with High School Sweetheart After Terminal Diagnosis And Vows to Stay By Her Side

Published

A man in eastern China named Fusheng went viral after returning to his first love upon discovering she suffers from a rare, debilitating disease.

Fusheng reunited with his high school girlfriend Cheng Aixiao in Fujian, promising his unwavering love and that she would never have to face her challenges alone.

Fusheng and Cheng first met in high school and began dating, but they parted ways after graduation when they attended different universities.

During their time together, Cheng mentioned her family history of hereditary ataxia, though Fusheng was too young to fully understand its implications

Cheng’s mother was diagnosed with ataxia at 23, shortly after Cheng’s birth. Growing up, Cheng watched her mother battle the debilitating illness, a struggle that deeply shaped her childhood.

Unfortunately, her mother tragically passed away while Cheng was still in secondary school.

As she grew up, Cheng feared inheriting her mother’s illness. At 23, her worst fears came true. Symptoms appeared and rapidly worsened, leaving her unable to walk independently.

She also experienced uncoordinated movements, affecting her arms, legs, and even her facial expressions.

By the time Cheng turned 25, she relied on others for nearly everything. Though her condition is incurable, she stayed hopeful for future treatments.

Seven years after their last meeting, Fusheng learned of Cheng’s condition through friends. Without hesitation, he returned to his hometown to see her.

Their meeting was simply heartwarming. When Cheng saw Fusheng for the first time, she smiled like she always did.

That moment struck Fusheng, and he decided to support her through every hardship. He gave up everything, determined that she would not have to endure her struggles alone.

Fusheng now works a full-time job by day and delivers food at night to help pay for Cheng’s treatment, taking only two days off each month.

“If we don’t have tomorrow, I want to cherish every today I get to spend with you,” he said, dedicating all his free time to be with her.
