Japanese baseball legend Ichiro Suzuki has made history as the first Asian player elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. With 99.7% of votes, he joins CC Sabathia and Billy Wagner in the class of 2025.
Ichiro debuted in 2001 with the Seattle Mariners, becoming the first Japanese position player in MLB. That year, he won both the American League MVP and Rookie of the Year awards.
Over his 19-year MLB career, Ichiro earned 10 All-Star selections, 10 Gold Gloves, and three Silver Sluggers, while maintaining a .311 career batting average.
He totaled 3,089 MLB hits and 4,367 combined hits across MLB and Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball league—the most in professional baseball history.
Retiring in 2019 after a final game at the Tokyo Dome, Ichiro was also recently inducted into Japan’s Baseball Hall of Fame, further cementing his legacy as a global icon and inspiration.
