Mickey Mouse and the gang celebrated a Korean cultural tradition depicting the story of a first birthday party and doljabi ceremony.

In the “Mickey Mouse Funhouse” episode, Mickey and his friends attend the first birthday of Ae-Che, a Korean tiger.

Ae-Che participates in a doljabi ceremony where she chooses an item from several on a table to predict her future career.

Writer Hanah Lee Cook, said “The traditional items are generally an apple or some kind of fruit to represent health; coins represent good fortune; a paintbrush to represent an artist; and a pencil to represent being a writer or a scholar.”
