At just 19, Japan’s Hiroto Ogiwara claimed gold in the men’s snowboarding big air event at the X Games in Aspen, marking a historic debut.

He became the first athlete to land the first known 2340 in a competition, an incredible trick which consists of rotating six and a half times in the air.

Ogiwara completed the trick despite sustaining a minor forearm fracture in practice beforehand.

“I’ve never been this happy. It was the greatest moment of my life,” Ogiwara shared after his groundbreaking performance.

For his history-making 2340 mute grab, the judges awarded Ogiwara an almost-perfect 97.33 score.

Fellow Japanese snowboarder Taiga Hasegawa, also 19, secured silver, showcasing a six-revolution trick.
