The documentary film ‘The Last of the Sea Women’ follows the real story behind the ‘haenyeo’ divers of South Korea’s Jeju Island, showcasing their fight to preserve their centuries-old tradition of diving without oxygen to harvest seafood.

As most haenyeo are now elderly, the film captures their struggle against modern threats and the efforts of a younger generation to revive their way of life.

Directed by Sue Kim and produced by Malala Yousafzai, the film will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8th before its global debut on Apple TV+ on October 11th.
