Oldest Story Art: Archaeologists have discovered the world’s oldest known picture story in Leang Karampuang Cave in Sulawesi, Indonesia.

The 51,200-year-old cave painting features three therianthropes (human-animal hybrids) and a wild pig, dated using a new method involving laser sampling of calcium carbonate layers on the art.

The discovery was made by researchers from Griffith University, Southern Cross University, and the Indonesian National Research and Innovation Agency, with samples collected in 2017 but only dated earlier this year.
