Vice President Kamala Harris Hosts Lunar New Year Reception For AAPI Community Leaders
On Wednesday, January 31st, Vice President Harris and the Second Gentleman hosted a reception celebrating Lunar New Year at their residence.
In her remarks, Vice President Harris wished everyone a prosperous new year, and spoke about the importance of coming together to celebrate culture and traditions. She also noted that it was the year of the Wood Dragon and that the last year of the Wood Dragon, in 1964, the U.S. saw important progress, including the singing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The Vice President called on the leaders in attendance to continue fighting to protect fundamental freedoms.
Invited guests included state-based and national AA & NHPI leaders across the private sector; local, state, and federal government; politics; non-profit and advocacy; small business owners; and celebrities and social medica influencers. DC and 19 states were represented among attendees. Among the guests were:
- AsianFeed Co-Founders Justin M. Kim and Michael W. Lai
- Senators Mazie Hirono and Tammy Duckworth
- Georgia State Representative, Dr. Michelle Au (who introduced the Vice President)
Guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres, live music and a performance by the Hung Ci Lion Dance Troupe.
